Recipe for Sausage Rolls

This Sausage roll recipe uses sausage meat as filling.  You are free to use bacon or if you do not like flavored sausage rolls, you can use ground pork.  The interesting part about making sausage rolls is that you don’t have to use one type of meat/sausage; you can combine two or more types and even add vegetables.  The name should not limit you to use sausage as the only filling. This is one of the many sausage roll recipes available, you are welcome to try it for breakfast, lunch or as a snack.

Ingredients

½ kg sausage meat

1 bulb onion finely diced

½ cup spring onions finely chopped

1 teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon of vegetable oil

¼ cup all purpose flour

2-3 sheets of puff pastry

2 eggs

Method

1.    Heat the oil in a pan and add in the sausage meat and fry for a few minutes or to a brownish color.

2.    Add in the bulb onions and fry for a few minutes. Turn off the heat

3.    Add in the spring onions and 1 egg and combine. Sprinkle the paprika and black pepper, mix well with a spoon.

4.    Use the flour to prepare your working surface. Place one pastry sheet on the surface and cut it into two. Beat the remaining egg and set aside.

5.    Add in rolled sausage meat along the strips. Brush the edge of the strips with a brush dipped in egg.

6.    Fold the pastry over the filling, repeat this with the remaining sheets and transfer to a baking sheet.

7.    Place the rolls with the seam underneath and egg wash the surface.

8.    Divide into two equal sizes or more according to your preference.

9.    Bake under a temperature of 180 degrees Celsius for 20- 25 minutes or until your pastry is brown and crispy.

10. Remove and allow to cool. Serve your sausage roll as desired.
