The patient who is said to have landed in the country on the 5th of March is currently admitted at Kenyatta National hospital. She passed through London on her way to Kenya from the United States. According to the Cabinet Secretary for health Mutahi Kagwe, the patient took herself to hospital when she discovered she had the symptoms of the disease. At this point, it is vital for everyone to take it upon themselves to protect themselves by engaging in the following:
1. Visit a health facility for diagnosis if you are experience the symptoms listed below
· Persistent sore throat that last for 3 to 4 days
· Fever
· Cough
· Extreme nasal congestion
· Shortness of breath
No one can be sure when they have come into contact with the virus until it is too late. To be safe, you need to practice the following.
2. Drink warm water to ensure your mouth and throat are moist. This will help flush the virus into the stomach where it has little chance to survive acidic environment. Failure to do so, the virus will travel through your windpipe and inflame the lungs.
3. The virus can’t survive high temperatures, if possible, keep your windows open to allow sunlight into your home, bask in the sun to kill virus that may have landed on your clothing.
4. Wipe surfaces and clean floors with soap or antiseptic disinfectants.
5. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use anti bacterial wipes
6. Avoid shaking hands with everyone and most importantly avoid crowded places especially those with poor ventilation.
