Homemade Yoghurt

Do you know it is easy to make your yoghurt at home? Using simple tools and affordable household ingredients, anyone can make their own yoghurt. There are varying methods of making yoghurt; here is one simple recipe for homemade yoghurt.

Ingredients

1 liter of Milk

Starter yoghurt (Normal plain flavored yoghurt with active or live cultures)

 

Tools

Thermometer

Wide mouthed flask with a lid

Spoon

Jars

Pot

 

Method

1.    In the thermos flask, add two tablespoons of the plain yoghurt and set aside.

2.    Heat the milk in the pot over medium heat, when the milk boils, start stirring and keep this up until it boils to a temperature of 85 Degrees Celsius.

3.    Turn off the heat and allow the milk to cool to a temperature of 46 Degrees Celsius.

4.    Pour a little amount of the milk into the thermos and stir gently, gradually add in the rest of the milk and keep stirring until yoghurt and milk mix well.

5.    Cover the flask and set it aside for 8 hours. Do not uncover the lid or move the flask before the 8 hours are over.

6.    Uncover the lid and transfer the yoghurt into the jars.

7.    Your yoghurt is ready to serve.  

8.    Add fresh fruit, chocolate chips or serve as desired.

Tips

For an effective fermentation process to occur, make sure you use plain flavored yoghurt that contains live cultures.
