Your hands come into contact with many unclean surfaces; this is why most germ transmission is via your hands. In case you are unable to access soap and water especially when in public, a hand sanitizer handy is the surest way to kill bacteria. Here is how to make your own hand sanitizer at home.

How to Make Hand Sanitizers

Ingredients

100 ml Aloe vera Gel

3 drops of glycerin

200 ml Rubbing Alcohol

Method

1.    In a jar, mix the ingredients thoroughly

2.    Transfer to a bottle and secure the top tightly.

3.    Your hand sanitizer is ready to use.  Squeeze a little amount in the palm of your hands and rubs your hands together to spread evenly.

An effective hand sanitizer should have an alcohol content of 60 percent. This is why it is important to use an alcohol with a high percentage of alcohol volume.  It is pointless to have a hand sanitizer with an alcohol content of less than 60%.  This is the least alcohol concentration that can kill bacteria.

In order to avoid contaminating your hand sanitizer, practice the following

Wash your hands thoroughly, if possible use clean gloves

Disinfect your working surface

Use clean tools ie bottle, measuring spoon etc

The concentration of the alcohol should not be less than 99 % ie do not add water to the mixture

The ratio of the alcohol to the aloe vera should always be maintained at 2:1, this is the only way to maintain the concentration of alcohol at 60 % in the final product.

Remember, a hand sanitizer does not only protect you from the corona virus, it kills all disease causing germs.

After the Covid- 19 has been eradicated, do not stop sanitizing to protect yourself from common flu.
