Recipe for Meat Balls

This basic meatball recipe is perfect for use in sauces, casseroles, pizzas and even sandwiches. You can vary the flavors / spices according to preference provided you stick to the procedure of making meatballs. These meatballs can be eaten right away or you can freeze and use them at your convenience.

This recipe uses beef but you are free to use pork, lamb etc. A fat free meat is not the best option in this case since you need the fat to tenderize your meat, alternatively, you can add in a little fat if you are using 100% lean meat.

Ingredients

1 kg ground beef

1 cup of parmesan cheese

1 cup dry breadcrumbs

1 cup of milk

3 cloves of garlic, minced.

2 teaspoons of ginger, ground.

Salt

1-2 teaspoons of black pepper

2 large onions finely diced

2 eggs

½ cup finely chopped basil (Preferably fresh).

Method

1.    Place the breadcrumbs in a large bowl and add in the milk, combine the mixture by stirring then set aside.

2.    In a different bowl, whisk the egg and add in the basil, cheese, black pepper and season. Whisk the mixture once again.

3.    Fold in the meat, and then use your hands to gently combine the mixture taking care not over overwork the meat.

4.    Add in the soaked breadcrumbs, garlic and onion and continue combining gently.

5.    Prepare a baking sheet and start forming meat balls, to form a standard size; you may use a spoon to scoop 2-3 spoonfuls for each meat ball.  Roll between your hands and place them on a baking sheet.

6.    Bake the meatballs under a temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Alternatively, you can braise the meat balls in sauce.
